Entering Alcohol Rehab

When you enter an alcohol rehab facility, there are a few things that you should keep in mind that you will learn about while there. One of the things that you want to find out before attending is whether you will only go during the day for classes and to talk with a counselor or if there is an inpatient program that allows you to stay overnight.

If you are addicted to drinking, then you will likely go through a detoxification process. This will help to eliminate the alcohol from the body in a safe manner. There will be nurses and other staff members to monitor your health so that any withdrawal effects are minimal. You will meet with counselors, doctors and nurses so that you can find out why you drink in the first place. Once you get to the root of the problem, then it will be easier to find ways to deal with the primary issue instead of drinking.

There are individual sessions as well as group sessions offered. The group sessions might be the most beneficial as you can talk with others who are going through the same problems you are dealing with. It will give you a support system while you are in rehab and after you go home. If you are living at the center for an extended period of time, typically anywhere from 30 to 90 days, you will receive meals, a room with a bed and access to a phone in most locations.
