Drug and Alcohol Rehabilitation: An Overview

When you have taken the first step in admitting that you need help for your addiction, your next concern may center on what to expect during your stay in rehabilitation. When you are admitted to a drug or alcohol rehab program, you will be paired with doctors, counselors, and therapists who will work with you to ensure your recovery. Your length of stay in the program will vary according to your needs and your financial boundaries, such as what kind of insurance coverage you have.

The first 30 days in rehabilitation may be the most challenging.

When you first arrive to the program, you may experience your biggest challenge in the first month. This time frame is usually marked by withdrawal symptoms and missing friends and family members. Your doctors and therapists will closely monitor you during this time.

You will be given a comprehensive examination.

You can expect to undergo a complete physical examination upon arrival. Along with checking you out physically, your medical team will also determine what therapeutic services you need during your stay.

You will attend individual and group counseling.

You will meet with your counselor on an individual basis and also in group therapy meetings. These meetings help you form healthy sharing habits and learn to control any anger or emotional outbursts.

Your insurance may pay for your rehab costs.

Many health insurers pay for rehab services. Your program can bill the cost to your insurer if you have a policy.
