Majority of alcoholics are not aware that they follow an indefinite drinking pattern. The addiction could have started as social drinking until it developed over time due to the irresistible desire to imbibe more and more amounts of liquor. Moreover, chemically dependent individuals usually take prescription drugs such as Valium, barbiturates and pain killers to keep their body and mind somewhat functional.
Signs and Symptoms
Since chemical dependent persons are unaware of their condition, it’s your duty as a friend or relative to act once you notice sudden transformation in their physical, emotional and social habits such as the following:- Depression
- Sleepiness, exhaustion or fatigue
- Slurred speech
- Unsteady movements
- Dilate pupils
- Unusual weight gain or loss
- Easily irritated
- Poor concentration
- Difficulty remembering things
- Paranoid attitude
- Avoidance of family and friends
- Borrowing money excessively
- Inability to communicate feelings
- Intoxication at work or social functions
