Signs One May Need Drug Rehab for Heroin Addiction

Do you suspect that your loved one may have a heroin addiction? If so, you may be hesitant to speak to him or her about it if you have no proof. Below are two major signs that an addiction exists, especially if you notice both.

Unexplained Bruises on Arms or between the Toes

You may notice unexplained bruises on his or her arms, particularly in the areas of major veins. Your loved one may wear long-sleeve shirts to cover them, even when the weather is hot outside.

Another place to look for bruises is between your loved one's toes. When a heroin addict tries to hide the injection sites, or if he or she runs out of useable veins in the arms, this is a popular location because it is easy to hide while wearing shoes or socks.

Skin Sores or Infection

Because heroin addicts are likely to use dirty needles or not use alcohol to sanitize their skin, you may see skin sores or infections. These appear as open areas that ooze either blood or pus. They are usually seen around injection sites.

If you notice one or both of the above signs, your loved one may have a heroin addiction that you wish to help him or her overcome. If you are uncertain as to how to approach the subject, call a local drug rehab center to discuss your options for getting your family member or friend the help he or she desperately needs.
